Twickenham to Tokyo!

Hi everyone!

Adventure Update - Week 1:

So our last stop before our adventure was chez Smillie in Twickenham where Christine finally ticked kayaking in the Thames off her list as well as having some awesome pizza and cake.  Thanks Aaron and Camilla again! Then Tokyo..

Here are some highlights from the week we have been here so far:

Neon lights in Shinjuku.  This is how I (Christine) expected Tokyo to be, and I was not let down on the amount of neon!

Six hours of Sumo, very exciting.  Even saw a western guy (who wasn't at all fat) win a bout.

Saw a demo of Asimo, the world's most popular robot at the Museum of Science and Innovation.  He danced, spoke and kicked a football.  Cool video to come :)

Spent a day at the Tokyo Gaming Convention.  Saw a lot of mad gaming fans and lots of new games...

...including new Wii U controller and Tekken with Nintendo costumes and features.. Christine still didn't beat Rob's Panda though :(

Guess which one is dressed up :)  One of the many gaming characters walking around the show.

Imperial Palace very close to where we are staying.. old meeting new in the centre of town..

Had to take picture..

And today we took a bus to Mt. Fuji.  Perfect weather (as apparently it is only visible 1 / 4 days).  Very pretty.

Rob next to flowers near Lake next to Mt. Fuji.  Also very pretty :)

Things we have learnt so far:

- There seem to be more toilets than people in Tokyo, and they are awesome (including heated seats and optional fake flush noises)

- How to say some basic Japanese phrases - Arigato!

- There are more German and Italian restaurants in Tokyo than Japanese ones (and probably more German restaurants than in the whole of Germany)

- Subway system is incredible and very easy to use.  Better than the Tube we think.

- FIFA 13 is the same as FIFA 12

- Every game now has an element of Tekken in it.. even Street Fighter

- The iPhone 5 has already made it to the Mt. Fuji basecamp, but not England

- Our camera is really good, thanks Katrine and Alf!

We're saving some entertainment for the rest of the trip including:

- Alan Partridge audio book - 7hrs

- 3 x Fighting Talk pod casts (downloaded before we left) - 3hrs

- Bourne Identity film - 2hrs

- Learning Norwegian book (Rob) - 100+ hrs

etc..

Next flight length with no entertainment - 8 hrs..

Leaving Japan on Wednesday so cramming in some more sights tomorrow.. then off to Beijing (if they let us in).  Not sure how easy it will be to access this blog during our three week stay in China, but crossing fingers we can update it fairly regularly.
